General Information

Welcome to Winter Park Tigers Pop Warner Cheerleading

Winter Park Tigers Cheer Squad is a sideline and competitive cheerleading program that offers a wide range of opportunities for young athletes. All squads will cheer for their respective football teams during the regular season as well as any post season games.

The regular season runs from August through October, with weekly practices beginning on Monday, August 1st. Practice locations and schedules will be provided late July or prior to season start up. Practice locations are subject to change based on availability and may vary as the season progresses and squads prepare for competition.

Games begin late August and are typically held on a Saturday and played either at our home field (Winter Park High School’s Showalter Field) or at our opponent’s field. Game schedules will be available late July, prior to the start of the season.

Each cheer family will receive a Parent/Cheerleader Handbook prior to the start of the season detailing information and expectations for the 2022 season. Please continue to check the website and/or Facebook for updates.

We look forward to welcoming returning and new members to the Tiger Family! #TIGERS4LIFES

Squad Designations

Cheerleaders are assigned to squads based on age and experience. Provided below are the divisions available for our cheer program.

Practice

Practice begins August 1st and runs through October. Practice locations and schedules will be provided late July or prior to season start up. Practice locations are subject to change based on availability and may vary as the season progresses and squads prepare for competition. Practice hours are limited to 10 hours per week (or 2.5 hours per day) prior to Labor Day and six hours per week (or 2 hours per day) after Labor Day.

Cheerleaders are responsible for bringing a large thermos of water, sunscreen, and bug spray to practice. Please note water may or may not be provided during practice.

Competition

Competition is just one facet of Pop Warner Cheerleading. Squads will compete in the annual Mid Florida Cheer and Dance Expo held at the end of OctoberCoaches will need to know by early September who will be competing, and parents will need to sign a competition agreement form. Competition squad cheerleaders are required to attend all practices. Failure to attend competition practices may result in squads not being able to effectively perform routine tumbling and stunt level sequences needed to maximum scoring.

Squads will cheer football games on a weekly basis and begin working on competition choreography, tumbling and stunt routines in early September. All competition team members will have an additional purchase of competition gear (uniforms/accessories). Teams that advance to the Southeast Regional Competition (scheduled Thanksgiving weekend 2022) will have a chance to compete at Pop Warner Nationals held in December 2022. Additional expenses may be incurred for all competition events.

Squads may also participate on a 2023 Spring Competition Team (Jan thru April) and attend two to three additional competition events. More information will be provided on all competitions as the season progresses.

Clinics and Camps

Winter skills camps/clinics will be offered during the off season. Registration announcements will be posted via our website and social media channels.
